Vans – Keeping it Authentic
Never has a company been more synonymous with the leading edge of California cool than Vans.
Soon after Paul and Jim Van Doren began selling their custom-made shoes in 1966, the first gen of SoCal skateboarders embraced the rubber-soled kicks for their reliable grip on the longboard and their easy, relaxed design. The Van Doren Rubber Company (as it was called at the time) was more than happy to listen to what its young customers had to say and began creating shoes specifically made for the up-and-coming sport of “sidewalk surfing.” Vans’ inaugural silhouette was the #44 Deck Shoe, known today as the Authentic. It remains one of the most popular skate-inspired shoes on the market.
Off the Wall
Since its founding, Vans has always been about bold style and ultimate durability. With a wide range of kicks plus a collection of streetwear and accessories, Vans has transformed the skate industry. The company took its dedication to that community even further when it adopted the famous “Off the Wall” tagline (coined by skaters riding off the walls of pools) and pegged skaters
